Breastfeeding

“Breastfeeding Saves More Lives Than Any Other Preventive Intervention!” (UNICEF, 2015)

I could say breastfeeding is one of my favourites but honestly, I am getting so excited about pregnancy, babies and kids too. I think breastfeeding is just another add on with its own research and challenges.

Let’s put it in a few words, inspired by James P. Grant (Executive Director of UNICEF 1980-1995).

Breastfeeding is such an important public topic because you can see it as a safety net against poverty. Breastfeeding gives the child a better start in life and it seems like it compensates for the injustice of the world into which it was born.

Furthermore, breastfeeding is safe, as it has the right temperature and the right ingredients for the individual.

No need of additional water, very important in developing countries, where water has not the highest hygienic rating.

Breastfeeding helps to relief pain in babies, it reduces infant mortality, it strengthens mental health and emotional development, it decreases blood pressure and the risk to suffer from ear infections or gastro-intestinal illness. Childhood cancer is lower in breastfed infants and brain & cognitive development is positively influenced.

There are tons of more reasons why breastfeeding deserves more recognition and promotion.
